How to pack light and how to LOVE it!!

Starting off with the wisest words from one of the wisest people I know!!

"First, layout all the clothes you plan to take on your bed.

Second, layout all the money you plan to take to next to your clothes.

Thirdly, Put half of the clothes back in the closet and double the amount of money.

Now you are ready to go."- Ross

Some important MUST takes

1. Passport and make a copy of your information page.  Not the front cover.

2. Money

If you have to actually pack!!!

Let's pretend you actually want  to bring clothes & toothpaste too.  Here is how to pack (lightly).

3. LUGGAGE- be sure your name is on a tag on your luggage.

  • ONE suitcase only.. Your choice. A Carry on or Medium size checked suitcase with wheels.

  • ONE small day pack..NO wheels (Backpack, shoulder bag, etc).

  • ONE small foldable and lightweight but sturdy duffle type bag in suitcase.  For souvenir shopping.

ROLL your clothes.. DO NOT fold them.. Less wrinkles. Less space needed.

Pack ONE set of clothes including undergarments in carry on.. In case of lost luggage.

Pack any liquid in 2 baggies.. In case of spillage.

One sheet of BUBBLE WRAP.. For wine purchases, pottery and other breakables.

Make sure your luggage is smaller than a Golden Retriever!!

The Kitchen Sink

How do you know you've packed the kitchen sink- overpacked??!!

If everything you've packed does not fit into a carry on bag (YES a carry on) and your small day pack.

              ....you've packed the kitchen sink.

If you can't lift your bag over your head and hold it there for 10 seconds,

...... you've packed the kitchen sink.

If you can't roll your load and walk 10 times around the block without dying of exhaustion,

              .....you've packed the kitchen sink.

Don't pack the kitchen sink.  You do not need half the stuff I know you are thinking about right now.

Leave it at home.

  • At MOST-4- 5 days worth of complete outfits. An extra shirt here, and extra pair of socks there.

  • Clothes take up the most room in your luggage and they are alot heavier than you think, so be stingy with what you take.

  • It is easier to do a bit of laundry in your room every few nights than lug around a ton of stuff.

  • In truth, you can wear the same pair of shorts for quite a while before they begin walking around on their own in search of the laundromat.

Make travel an exercise in simplifying your life. You will THANK me!!
